The news

Sotomayor: Obama’s Supreme Court Pick and the Cost of Environmental Protection - Blog
Now that Sonia Sotomayor has gone from presumptive front-runner to official nominee for the Supreme Court, what’s that mean for environmental issues? Much of the fireworks surrounding Ms. Sotomayor’s work on the Second Court of Appeals centers on the controversial affirmative-action ruling in Connecticut. But she also wrote the opinion in one big environmental case—one the Supreme Court just overturned.

Handouts And Loopholes - Article
Al Gore calls it “one of the most important pieces of legislation ever introduced in Congress”. Joe Barton, a Republican congressman and global-warming skeptic, says it will put the American economy in a straitjacket. For something that practically no one has read, the American Clean Energy and Security Act provokes heated debate. It would establish a cap-and-trade system for curbing carbon-dioxide emissions, thus transforming the way Americans use energy.

EPA Restores Science to Air Quality Standards - Article
EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Thursday announced the agency is reversing controversial changes to how science is used to set air pollution standards. “It’s essential that the best science and the greatest transparency inform air quality standards that prevent illness and save lives,” Jackson said. “These changes will help us bring a greater rigor and openness to our standard-setting process and improve the scientific basis for our standards.”

International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Launched - Article

Workplace Injuries Rise Following Change to Daylight Savings - Article
According to two Michigan State University researchers, workplace accidents spike after daylight saving time changes every March. The doctoral candidates, studying industrial and organizational psychology, found in two separate studies that the March switch to daylight saving time resulted in 40 minutes less sleep for American workers, a 5.7 percent increase in workplace injuries and nearly 68 percent more work days lost to injuries.
