EPA Announces Partnership with ECHA - Article
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on Friday announced a partnership that will promote enhanced technical cooperation on chemical management activities. ECHA is the agency that implements the European Union’s chemical management program known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals), and the partnership may signal a shift in U.S. chemical policy toward a more REACH-like system.

Department of Energy to award first industrial energy efficiency certification - Article
The U.S. Department of Energy announced the first industrial plants in the country to be certified under the Superior Energy Performance program--a new, market-based industrial energy efficiency program. The energy management certification program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is meant to serve as a roadmap for industrial facilities to help continually improve their efficiency and maintain market competitiveness.

Target outlines 4 key environmental sustainability commitments - Article
The Minneapolis-based retailer released its first set of comprehensive, company-wide environmental commitments, designed to guide their efforts moving forward and also announced several goals in key areas such as waste reduction, water use and inbound/outbound transportation efficiency. The four commitments are the first that Target has ever developed for public consumption, providing all of the company’s stakeholders with a vision of Target’s sustainability commitment.

New app to tell shoppers brands' green credentials - Article
A new mobile phone app promises to allow shoppers to make instant decisions on whether or not to buy goods based on the ethical and environmental credentials of the brands that make them. Regardless of what is printed a on a package, consumers will be able to instantly access CSR statistics.

How green is your artificial christmas tree? You might be surprised - Article
When it comes to Christmas trees, Americans increasingly prefer plastic pines over the real thing. Sales of fake trees are expected to approach 13 million this year, a record, as quality improves and they get more convenient, with features like built-in lights and easy collapsibility. In the most definitive study of the perennial real vs. fake question, it was found that an artificial tree would have to be reused for more than 20 years to be greener than buying a fresh-cut tree annually.

Retail Safety Manager, OfficeMax Inc., Naperville, IL
OfficeMax is looking for a Retail Safety Manager. S/he will be responsible for the development and implementation of safety and health initiatives for retail stores. The position will provide strategic and technical assistance in the field regarding corporate and regulatory compliance to retail stores. Responsibilities include leading the safety and health program, partner with store operations and corporate safety to develop communication strategies that outline the safety and health plans to include safety huddles creation of safety visuals for stores, create and maintain retail safety metrics, create the retail safety trends communications reports, and share with the stores and ID trends to focus prevention strategy. You will also be asked to assist in the development of safety policies, safety plans, technical data review, and implement procedures to comply with local, state, and federal laws. Requirements include a BS or equivalent in industrial technology or industrial engineering, CSP certification preferred. 7+ years experience in EHS, 5+ in a multi-store retailer organization. Senior Manager - EH&S, MedImmune, LLC, Frederick, MD
Position manages and provides environment, health & safety support for site operations at the Frederick Manufacturing Center (FMC). Develops, implements, revises and/or maintains environment, health & safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and company standards and values. Performs accident management activities, including injury management, investigations and associated record keeping. Chairs Site Safety Committee thereby fostering employee involvement in EHS activities. A minimum of 5 years experience at managerial level required.

Supports site environmental staffs by providing governance, oversight, and support for environmental programs consistent with Exelon Nuclear and station goals. As the Regional Environmental Manager responsible for supporting environmental activities, the Regional Environmental Manager establishes and reinforces standards and expectations for environmental programs and seeks to minimize environmental risk and promotes an error free and professional work environment. Works with Nuclear Management to develop, implement and track environmental stewardship programs. Minimum 10 years experience in managing environmental projects and/or related experience.
