Most large companies plan to increase spending on climate - Report
Seventy percent of firms with revenue of $1 billion or more say they plan to increase spending on climate change initiatives in the next two years, a global survey reported. Nearly half of the 300 corporate executives who responded to a survey conducted for the accounting and consulting giant Ernst & Young said their climate change investments will range from 0.5 percent to more than 5 percent of revenues by 2012. Obama official reaches out to manufacturers - Article
Nicole Lamb-Hale, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Manufacturing and Services is tasked with facilitating President Obama's efforts to double U.S. manufacturing exports in the next five years. To do this, she said, industry will need to take advantage of a resource that has been woefully under-utilized: the services of the government.

GRI announces two new goals - Article
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which is hosting its 2010 Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency in Amsterdam through Friday, announced two new goals for 2015 and 2020 at the conference.The first is to require all large and medium-sized companies in OECD countries and fast-growing emerging economies to report publicly on their ESG performance, or if they don’t, explain why. The second is to see a standard for integrated reporting adopted by 2020.

Senate introduces climate change legislation - Summary
Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) recently introduced the American Power Act, a cap-and-trade bill.  The goal is to reduce CO2 equivalent by 4.75 percent of 2005 levels by 2013, 17 percent in 2020, 42 percent in 2030, and 83 percent by 2050.

Associate Director Biosafety, Merck & Co., Rahway, NJ
Candidate will be responsible for the oversight of the company Biosafety program. Provide support and expert advice to divisions and sites upon their request and audit facilities as required. Develop policies and procedures to facilitate the safe handling of agents from BSL1 through BSL3 at both small and large scale. Collate data quickly to provide risk assessments for novel agents. Provide general and pathogen specific training to small and large groups at the home based site and satellite sites as needed. Will be responsible for the operation of the registration and self assessment programs at the flagship R&D sites in Rahway, NJ and West Point, PA. Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field with molecular biology or microbiology is the minimum acceptable degree. A minimum of 10 years practical experience in biosafety required. RBP or CBSP certification strongly recommended.

This position provides Environmental, Health and Safety expertise, oversight and enforcement of EH&S plans and procedures for the Company’s manufacturing operations located in Arizona.
