Carbon Tax Passes Down Under, Mate - Article
The landmark law, passed in the Senate today, makes Australia the first major economy to put a tax on carbon. It will provide the certainty corporations need to make serious changes and investments, while helping Australia meet its goal of reducing carbon emissions 5% below 2000 levels by 2020 and 80% by 2050. The tax, which affects the country's 500 biggest emitters, starts in July 2012 at $25 per ton. It will be followed by a carbon trading program in 2015.

Water, water everywhere, and lots of drops to match - Press Release
CH2M HILL launched WaterMatch to spur water action at the local level. WaterMatch is a goodwill initiative to help municipalities, industries and agriculture find each other and collaborate to conserve fresh water and promote community and economic development. The website allows users to find wastewater treatment plants close to their current and potential future operations and then use the social networking function to connect with the utilities operating those plants.

Sustainability Consortium completes life cycle profiles for beef, laptops, detergent - Press Release
The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) has completed and published life cycle assessments (LCA) for 10 product categories, including include coffee, cotton towels, yogurt, televisions, toilet tissues, and wheat cereal. The 10 Category Sustainability Profiles are the first of 50 product categories TSC intends to profile before the end of 2011 in an effort to help manufacturers make informed decisions to reduce production costs, use fewer resources, and communicate benefits to consumers.

Serious Energy offers no-cost efficiency retrofits - Article
One of the biggest challenges facing energy efficiency retrofits has long been the complicated nature of the process. Whether it's making the business case to justify the upfront costs or negotiating the tax liens from PACE programs, there is no shortage of obstacles. Serious Energy announced a new service that hopes to clear those hurdles, and help speed up the rate at which building owners can undertake energy efficiency retrofits. SeriousCapital, a unit of Serious Energy, is launching a service that will offer building energy upgrades at zero cost to owners.

China launches fast acting plans to phase out incandescents, recycle 70% waste, support EV's - Article
With the sweep of a pen, China launched several broad initiatives that will impact daily life in China as well as global markets. In addition to announcing that incandescent bulbs will be gone in five years, China is establishing a system to recycle 70% of its waste. The country is also taking first steps to stop municipal sewage, household garbage, industrial waste, ;fertilizers and pesticides from ;polluting water supplies.

Don't LOL, Pennsylvania to ban texting while driving - Article
The state General Assembly passed Senate Bill 314 to make sending text messages while driving a violation for all drivers. Pennsylvania is the 35th state to impose a texting-while-driving ban for all drivers. According to the National Safety Council, the new law could save a dozen lives per year in Pennsylvania and prevent 1,200 injuries requiring medical attention.

EHS Program Manager, Genentech, South San Francisco, CA
Genentech Inc. is looking for an EHS Program Manager. This position will be accountable for leading and managing the EHS Wastewater program across the Genentech South San Francisco (SSF) site. The ideal candidate is expected to implement and improve an industry-standard wastewater quality program for Genentech's manufacturing, laboratory, and facilities maintenance operations. Requires a BS or MS in a relevant scientific or engineering field. An engineering background in chemical, mechanical, or civil engineering is preferred. Safety Manager, Loparex, Iowa City, IA

Loparex is looking for a Safety Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all functions relating to safety compliance for the Iowa City facility. This will include implementing, developing, and maintaining safety programs, conducting safety training, and leading safety improvement teams. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in related field, 6 to 10 years of relevant safety experience in a manufacturing environment, strong working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, working knowledge of workers compensation law, knowledge of environmental regulations, solid computer skills.
