China to levy carbon tax before 2015 - Article
China's biggest energy-consuming companies are likely to face a direct tax on carbon dioxide emissions by 2015, the Xinhua-backed Economic Information Daily reported, citing government sources. The tax would begin at a rate of $1.59 per ton of carbon dioxide, and gradually increase depending on a company's emission levels, the report said. It did not elaborate on when the higher tax bands would kick in.

Walmart's Green Room blog launches - Press Release
Walmart launched a sustainability blog this week, called The Green Room, with the stated purpose of developing a platform for an ongoing conversation with NGOs, suppliers and "others who want to share ideas and partner with us in helping people live better around the world."

More firms appointing lead corporate responsibility role - Article
The portion of organizations with a lead role overseeing corporate responsibility (CR) shot up to 62 percent in 2011, versus 42 percent in 2010, according to a new survey. Corporate Responsibility Magazine, one of the survey authors and creator of the '100 Best Corporate Citizens' list, found that companies with CR programs are reaping improved customer relations and employee attraction/retention.
