And now the news

Rio+20 and the World of Clarice
As governments clearly fumbled in the face of the complex challenges of imagining and building a more equitable and sustainable economic growth model in the decades ahead, senior business executives and leaders of civil society engaged in intelligent and productive dialogue about difficult issues at hundreds of thematic panels held at the Corporate Sustainability Forum and other sessions held in Rio. In this sense, Rio+20 signaled a welcome change of dynamic in the public policy debate that may not be apparent but is substantive and potentially consequential.

Federal Court Upholds EPA's global warming rules
A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld the first-ever regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, saying that the EPA was "unambiguously correct" in using existing federal law to address global warming. The rules, which had been challenged by industry groups and several states, will reduce emissions of six heat-trapping gases from large industrial facilities, as well as from automobile tailpipes.

7 steps to a greener Chinese supply chain
As NGO’s  heighten their monitoring and the Chinese government enforces new laws to increase transparency and accountability, multinational corporations can expect growing pressure to run a clean supply chain. But rather than simply monitoring Chinese suppliers’ compliance with local EHS standards, leading companies are giving suppliers tools and incentives to independently improve environmental performance.

Are Americans too complacent as disasters strike?
The results of the 2012 Public Safety Survey are in and it's not looking good for Americans. Despite a record-breaking year of federally declared disasters in 2011, including floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and wildfires, the survey determined that many Americans still lack basic awareness of their local emergency communications systems.

Accounting for natural wealth gains world traction
Putting a price on a natural bounty long taken for granted as free may sound impossible, even ridiculous. But after three decades on the fringes of serious policymaking, the idea is gaining traction, from the vividly clear waters of the Maldives to the sober, suited reaches of the World Bank.
