And now the news

How to redesign business for a resource-constrained world - Article
Whatever form business takes as it negotiates out of the current conundrum, it must operate within the limits of a finite world. While relatively cheap labour in the developing world may fuel growth and feed increasing rates of consumption, pressure on natural resources means manufacturing need to radically transform be fit for purpose today and in the future.

A storm moving at four million mph - Article
The largest solar storm in five years was due to arrive on Earth early Thursday, promising to shake the globe's magnetic field while expanding the Northern Lights. The massive cloud of charged particles could disrupt utility grids, airline flights, satellite networks and GPS services, especially in northern areas. Companies should plan for future disruptions as the Sun's 11-year storm cycle is building.

Understanding the value of water - Sponsor Article
Generally speaking, water is undervalued.  Although there are many signs suggesting we will all one day pay the "true cost" of water, such calculations are highly dependent upon location, user category, water rights, and many other variables.  Here is guide to help your company consider: What You Think You Pay, What You Actually Pay, and What You Could Pay.
This article is a benefit of the Antea Group sponsoring of NAEM's Sustainability Conference.

How third-party CSR ratings impact share price - Article
Being added to external corporate social responsibility indices enhances a company's reputation and can affect its share price, but not always in ways expected. This article examines how the stock prices of 121 companies changed after being added to or removed from the Calvert Social Index.

Ikea's Steve Howard on bringing sustainability to the masses - Interview
A year ago, Steve Howard, founder and CEO of The Climate Group, became the chief sustainability officer  at Ikea, the privately held $32 billion Swedish home-furnishings giant. As Ikea releases its 2011 sustainability report, Steve talks about his decision to move into industry, Ikea's push for certified cotton and timber and how to make sustainable products affordable to millions.

The Role of Corporations in Dr. Seuss - Blog
With the Dr. Seuss' The Lorax opening in theaters last week, it's interesting to see the role of corporate partnerships and product placement in what is and was originally an unabashed anti-consumerism story. Mark Gunther ponders this relationship and the appropriateness of the partners and sponsors based on their commitment to reducing their environmental impacts. NAEM's Executive Director first talked about The Lorax and its role as a tool to introduce children to conservation values back in May of 2010. Both blogs are good reading as we think about the messages and ideas our children will get from both the original Dr. Seuss book and the newly release (in 3D no less) film. Will you be seeing it?
