When a product says it's good for the environment, how does a consumer know if that's true? For the first time since 1998, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is trying to clarify that with its updated Green Guides.  The guidelines are designed to help marketers ensure the claims they make about the environmental attributes of their products are truthful and non-deceptive.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has launched its Sustainable Materials Management (SMM ) Electronics Challenge, an initiative to make protective electronics refurbishing and recycling practices the industry standard. By participating in the SMM Electronics Challenge, companies are committing to send 100% of the used electronics that they collect to third-party certified refurbishers and recyclers and to increase the amount of used electronics they collect.
