And now the news

Obama's climate team appears primed for action - Article
The president's top climate appointees and the outside advisers best positioned to shape his agenda are a team replete with heavy hitters - including green-minded business leaders, buttoned-down environmental lobbyists and bureaucrats who have spent years wrestling with the minutiae of regulations.  Here's a rundown of the players.

HP in drive to help car manufacturers reduce waste - Article
Hewlett-Packard is getting involved in a shared service to help 34 of the world's leading car manufacturers wipe out harmful substances from the automotive sector supply chain, as the technology giant is set to host the International Material Data System (IMDS) for the next five years. The aim is to help prevent the use of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead and mercury, as well as making sure that reportable substances are declared for recycling.

The whole lot: What environmental risks lurk in property acquisition? - Article
When expanding an existing business or starting a new one, it is rare to locate on a property that did not have a previous use. In most areas of the country, it is also not uncommon for the property to have environmental issues that can create liability for both prior and current owners. Conducting an All Appropriate Inquiry is critical to minimize regulatory risk and establish defense protection against potential lawsuits.

Steven Chu steps down as US energy secretary - Article
The Nobel laureate Steven Chu has announced he is to resign as US energy secretary. In a letter to DOE staff, Chu noted his successes in office, such as funding the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Yet Chu also became a controversial figure, facing heavy criticism from Republicans, deniers of climate change and some members of the business community. Critics focused on occasional failures of Chu's initiatives, such as Solyndra.

Shape Shifting: Chipotle adds hoodies to menu to boost sales - Article
Abercrombie & Fitch sells sex. Harley-Davidson sells rebellion. Chipotle sells idealism. The burrito chain has long pushed sustainable food in its 1,400 restaurants. Now, Chipotle is creating a lifestyle brand to appeal to consumers who believe in sustainability. While it's an unusual move for a restaurant chain, the likes of Abercrombie and Harley have been doing this kind of thing for years.

First down! Super Bowl power outage sheds light on smart grid - Article
This high-profile "oops" hints at a bigger problem across America's electrical grid. Much of the equipment is old and wasn't designed for the way it's used today. Smart grid management was key to the success of the 2011 Orange Bowl, where a Department of Energy project turned an overloading transformer into a non-issue. The government-backed solution wouldn't work everywhere, so energy managers will likely turn increasingly toward private sector innovations to help them circumvent another blackout.
