And now the news

Building the foundation for a sustainable safety culture - Article
Culture change in an organization of any size is not a simple process. When it comes to workplace culture, many elements contribute to creating and sustaining a strong culture of safety.  While it is likely that some of these elements vary from organization to organization, there are four distinct cornerstones that create a foundation on which a more effective safety culture can be built, despite complexity and variability among organizations.

States' group calls for 45% cut in amount of carbon emissions allowed - Article
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative proposed a fundamental change to increase electrical utilities' incentive to cut emissions from fossil-fuel plants by raising the cost of compliance. The group proposed a 45 percent reduction next year in the total carbon dioxide emissions allowed. The cut is not as draconian as that number suggests, however, because the new total of 91 million tons reflects the current emissions level after five years of a slumping economy and increases in renewable energy and energy-efficiency measures.

Relax! You'll be more productive - Article
More and more of us find ourselves unable to juggle overwhelming demands and maintain a seemingly unsustainable pace. Paradoxically, the best way to get more done may be to spend more time doing less. A new and growing body of multidisciplinary research shows that strategic renewal - including daytime workouts, short afternoon naps, longer sleep hours, more time away from the office and longer, more frequent vacations - boosts productivity, job performance and, of course, health.

More companies reporting profitability from environmentally friendly practices - Article
For years, companies have wrestled with the question of whether environmentally friendly business practices created enough financial value to justify investing in them. Those questions remain for many organizations, but a new report indicates that companies increasingly are discovering value in environmental sustainability, and they are changing their business practices to take advantage of it.

4 steps for getting the most out of utility rebates and incentives - Blog
As the demand for energy is rising at record rates, billions of dollars in incentives are being allocated at the federal, state and local level across the U.S. to spur energy efficiency programs. For businesses, this means that there is a wealth of money available for them to tap into to help fund their energy reduction initiatives and offset the cost of energy efficient capital investments.

How to give a meaningful "Thank You" - Blog
Forget the empty platitudes; your star employee is not a "godsend." They are a person deserving of your acknowledgment and worthy of appreciation and respect. When was the last time you thanked them - really thanked them?
