EPA nominee pledges common-sense approach to climate change - Article
Gina McCarthy, President Obama's nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Thursday pledged a “common-sense” approach to battling climate change and touted a career that included working for five Republican governors in an effort to counter GOP criticism of the agency she hopes to lead.

AT&T, Mattel top CR Magazine 100 Best Corporate Citizens list - Article
CR magazine last week released its 2013 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, which ranks companies based on disclosure and performance measures covering environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance and philanthropy. This year, AT&T dethroned Bristol-Myers Squibb, which fell to number three, for the list's number one spot while toy maker Mattel took second. Eaton, Intel, Gap, Hasbro, Merck, Campbell Soup Co. and Coca-Cola Enterprises made up the remaining top ten.

Renewable energy usage a competitive advantage for Walmart - Article
Walmart is eyeing greater energy efficiency and less reliance on fossil fuels as key drivers of its low cost, low price business model. The company announced several new targets on Monday that are designed to put it further along the path to becoming supplied 100% by renewable energy and save an estimated $1 billion annually in energy costs. The company said it would drive the production or procurement of seven billion kWh of renewable energy globally every year, a 600 percent increase over 2010 levels while also reducing the kWh per square foot of energy intensity required to power Walmart's buildings globally by 20% compared to 2010 levels.

China begins Cap-and-Trade, Asia warned on energy needs - Article
Two major cities in China will begin pilot cap-and-trade programs in June, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Shanghai's program will cut energy consumption and carbon emissions by an estimated 3.5% this year per unit of gross domestic product. Other pilot programs beginning later this year are in Guangdong, Tianjin, Chongqing and Hubei.

Director, IPP Environmental Services, CalEnergy Generation LLC, Calipatria, CA
This position provides leadership and direction for assuring environmental compliance and enhancing the environmental resources of the company, directs the development of strategies to champion the company's environmental RESPECT policy, provides support to professional staff to identify and define emerging environmental issues, and coordinates and provides support to the senior vice president, environmental services, in guiding and overseeing the environmental affairs of the organization. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities include adhering to, supporting and enforcing all safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures, providing direction and counsel to ensure that the company proactively works to create responsible environmental laws and regulations that reflect sound public policy. S/he will also support the senior vice president, environmental services, in administration and oversight of all environmental matters for CalEnergy U.S. and provides direction and counsel to the gas plant general managers and their environmental staff. Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences, the physical sciences, business or related field. Ten years of experience, with a minimum of five years of experience with environmental or regulatory issues in a management or lead capacity. Advanced knowledge of environmental or other regulatory policy, laws and regulations, with the demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex regulatory proposals and environmental permits, submit written comments and provide testimony at regulatory proceedings.

EHS Management Systems Auditor, ERM, Houston, TX
ERM is seeking a EHS Management Systems Auditor with Offshore O&G Operations Experience to join our growing Performance & Assurance practice team in Houston, TX. In this ground floor role, you will develop operating procedures for a offshore facility building health and safety management systems in alignment with client's local and international requirements. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging EHS management projects for large global clients. Responsibilities include performing compliance audits to assess a facility or project's compliance with applicable environmental and/or health and safety regulatory requirements, corporate standards, or management systems, developing operating procedures required for HSE Management Systems, identify follow-up corrective actions to close audit findings, provide technical assistance on EHS compliance and EHS management system projects. Requirements are a Bachelors or Masters Degree in engineering, safety, environmental science, business administration, or related discipline, 8 to 15 years of environmental, and/or health and safety experience in industrial environments, preferably in process plants, mining, upstream oil and gas, or on construction projects. Oil & gas or chemical sector experience desired. Certification in field; PE, CSP, CHMM, or similar registration highly desirable. BEAC certification a plus.
