West Fertilizer Plant's hazards eluded regulators for decades - Article
The assumption that nothing of consequence could go wrong at the Texas fertilizer plant appears to have shaped the actions of the seven or more state and federal regulatory agencies that collectively shared oversight responsibility for the plant.  In June 2011 the plant's owner, the West Fertilizer Co., filed an emergency response plan with the Environmental Protection Agency stating that there was "no" risk of fire or explosion at the facility.

GISR takes major step towards sustainability ratings standard - Press Release
The Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings (GISR) announced the Beta Version of a set of core Principles as part of an international effort to drive excellence in corporate sustainability ratings, rankings and indices. GISR will not rate companies on sustainability. Instead, it will accredit other sustainability ratings, rankings or indices to apply its standard for measuring excellence in corporate sustainability performance. Currently, more than 100 ratings, ranking and indices are using over 2,000 performance indicators to evaluate more than 10,000 companies.

Mark Tercek, the head of the Nature Conservancy, is not your usual green-minded crusader. As a former partner and head of corporate finance at Goldman Sachs, Tercek is someone who has lived in both worlds. While at Goldman, then-CEO Hank Paulson had asked him to head up the investment bank's new Environmental Strategy Group. Because Tercek had been a big-time player at Goldman, his colleagues listened when he talked about the importance of the ecosystem when making investment decisions. How much Goldman's new green approach has paid off isn't clear but it undoubtedly left the bank a more enlightened place.

Grocery delivery services cut co2 emissions up to 75% - Article
Stay home and feel good about it. Grocery deliver services, such as those offered by Amazon, Safeway, FreshDirect and Google, can cut carbon dioxide emissions by 20 to 75 percent compared with individual household trips to the store, according to University of Washington researchers. The study also discovered significant transportation savings for companies if they delivered based on routes that clustered customers together, instead of catering to individual household requests for specific delivery times.

Director of Health, Safety & Environment, PepsiCo Corp., Somers, NY/Nationwide
Pepsi is looking for an HSE Director. You must have strong OSHA and Environmental background. The Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) will be responsible for developing, deploying, implementing, and maintaining OSHA, EPA, and DOT/Fleet Safety-related strategy in the dynamic industry of manufacturing, warehousing, direct store delivery and transportation. This position will also assist field location HSE staff in maintaining HSE compliance, assessing and mitigating risk, and facilitating continuous HSE improvement. This position will function as an internal HSE Subject Matter Expert and team member. The successful candidate will be an HSE leader for the company and be able to engage, motivate, and align the NAB organization towards designated HSE objectives, as well as be a part of the development, recommendation, and implementation of division HSE policies and procedures. The candidate is expected to provide collaborative, proactive, and creative problem solving ability to develop best-in-class HSE programs for the improvement of the overall HSE strategy. The candidate will be a member of the HSE NAB Leadership team, led by the Senior  Director of HSE.  Minimum of Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Manufacturing, Environmental, Safety or related fields, a minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing/fleet as an HSE professional is required, an extensive knowledge and experience with HSE Management systems and their deployment. Post graduate HSE qualifications desirable. CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE desirable.

Regional Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, Wrigley Corp., Chicago, IL
The Regional ESH Manager reports to the Director of Global Safety & Environment and is responsible for the overall management and direction of Environmental, Safety & Health within the respective region. This position is accountable for ensuring regional compliance with national and local ESH laws and regulations, Corporate ESH Standards and for developing and implementing policies and procedures which are consistent with the Company's vision, mission and values, as well as minimizing the Company's general liability and exposure to environmental, safety and health risks. The position requires a high level of technical expertise and provides subject matter expertise in regional and local projects to ensure that environmental, safety and health risks are mitigated. The Regional ESH Manager is equipped with the knowledge necessary to serve as the Company's in house consultant with regards to: regional environmental, safety & health laws and regulations, Corporate ESH standards and appropriate related directives; evaluating the potential environmental and health risks associated with new and existing ingredients, performing effective safety engineering evaluations on internally and externally designed equipment and processes. Undergraduate in Engineering / Technology field with emphasis in Safety, an alternate would be Science field related to the environment (more emphasis would be needed in experience around safety). Preferred – graduate in business / management or further education in Engineering / Technology. 10-15 years of experience. Strong technical background in safety related topics, including mention of HAZCOM, PSM, Machinery Safety, Flammable Liquids / Combustible Powders, LOTO, etc. Understanding of the role of OH complimenting S&H in such areas as Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, etc.

Regional Manager of Safety, Anheuser-Busch Corp., Bronx, NY
Anheuser-Busch is looking for a Regional EHS Manager. Primary Responsibilities for this position include providing a leadership role in ensuring a safe work environment for all employees, conducting safety risk management, DOT, security and environmental training and education including compliance with Federal and State Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Environmental Protection Standards, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/Department Of Transportation Regulations, security policies and Anheuser-Busch and Wholesale Operations Division policies, and overseeing worker's compensation, auto and general liability risk exposure, following the standards set forth in the third party administrator instructions manual. A Bachelor's degree in safety related field is preferred along with three (3) years experience in risk management, environmental affairs preferred; supervisory experience preferred, knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and Department of Transportation regulations and related risk management standards is required.
