The journey took four years and included seven attempts to recycle a challenging oily filter sludge generated from a machining operation. Eastern States Press Midwest to Improve Air
In a battle that pits the East Coast against the Midwest over the winds that carry dirty air from coal plants, the governors of eight Northeastern states plan to petition the Environmental Protection Agency to force tighter air pollution regulations on nine Rust Belt and Appalachian states. Their governors have long criticized the Appalachian and Rust Belt states, including Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan, for their more lenient rules on pollution from coal-fired power plants, factories and tailpipes - allowing those economies to profit from cheap energy while their belched soot and smog are carried on the prevailing winds that blow across the United States. According to a KPMG International survey, Corporate Responsibility (CR) reporting has become a well-established practice in the United States. The KPMG International Survey of Corporate Responsibility Reporting 2013 found that among the top 100 U.S. companies by revenue, 86 percent now formally report on their CR efforts, compared to 83 percent in 2011 and 74 percent in 2008. Olin Chlor Alkali Products, a division of Olin Corp., has an opening for a Division EHS/ORC (Olin Responsible Care) Manager South/Central US. Position to be located at one of the facilities in the region -- Charleston, TN; McIntosh, AL; St. Gabriel, Louisiana; or Augusta, GA. The ORC Manager will have oversight accountability for Chlor Alkali Division Operations in the South/Central US Region. Leadership responsibilities will include the development and implementation of strategy and programs that drive continuous improvement in all areas of Responsible Care; providing technical assistance, mentoring the organization and identification of best practices. The ORC Manager will have joint responsibilities with the rest of the ORC Division Team to foster and maintain a positive ORC culture across the Olin organization through visible participation in Division wide ORC initiatives. He or she is also responsible for support of the Olin Chlor Alkali headquarters Management System and maintaining Responsible Care status at the business level. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a technical or management field required (Master's degree preferred) along with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in manufacturing environments. Prior chemical industry experience highly preferred. Multi-site management experience required.

Intel is the world's largest semiconductor chip maker. They are looking for an EHS Manager. In this position, you will be managing the Intel Oregon EHS Organization. You will be responsible for all management systems to assure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, government requirements and Intel policies and integration of sustaining semiconductor operations and all new construction in accordance with above requirements. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to directing EHS work in a large, multi-site high tech manufacturing facility with co-located operational semiconductor facilities and ongoing construction and assuring detailed documentation and compliance with all laws, regulations and appropriate standards at all Oregon sites. Qualifications include holding a Masters or PhD degree in Chemical/Environmental Engineering or a related field and have 15+ years of environmental engineering management experience in a high tech manufacturing and technology development environment. In depth understanding of Federal and Oregon State regulatory requirements in Air, Wastewater and Waste is required.
Cargill Inc., Hammond, IN
Cargill Texturizing Solutions offers specific solutions for improving stability, texture, consistency and shelf life in multiple food applications, based on a wide palette of ingredients including hydrocolloids, emulsifiers, lecithin's, starches and soy flours. The CTS Regional EHS Lead will have primary responsibilities for working with the CTS leadership team in Hammond, IN. Additionally this role will provide leadership and oversight to the Atlanta, GA, Decatur, IL and Cedar Rapids, IA CTS locations. The duties for this position are management/leadership of all health and safety issues including but not limited to: Safety education/training, execution and auditing of safe work permits, coordination of incident investigations, execution of injury prevention plans, create location safety goals and objectives, pre-project planning, EHS audits/inspections, safety/security projects, contractor safety, communications and reporting as required to the enterprise, corporate and agencies as needed. Working with others to establish the direction for plant and regional safety program/processes that will help reduce incidents and create a zero injury safety culture. Additional general responsibilities include ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, business unit and corporate regulations and policies. Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline such as Engineering, Chemistry, EHS or related field is required along with a minimum 5 years of experience in production management or safety leadership with practical in-plant application experience. 20% travel. Familiarity with RCI EHS management software preferred.
