BT, Shell and Corporates Call for Trillion Tonne Carbon Cap
Unilever, Shell, BT, and EDF Energy are among 70 leading companies today calling on governments across the globe to step up efforts to tackle climate change. The companies, which have a combined turnover of $90bn, say the world needs a "rapid and focused response" to the threat of rising global carbon emissions and the "disruptive climate impacts" associated with their growth. U.S. appeals court finds conflict-minerals rule violates free speech
A U.S. appeals court on Monday struck down parts of a regulation that forces public companies to disclose if their products contain "conflict minerals" from a war-torn part of Africa, saying it violates free speech rights. The ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit marks a partial victory for the three business groups that had filed the original lawsuit, which claimed that the regulation violated companies' free speech rights under the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment by in essence forcing them to condemn their own products. The purpose of this role is to lead, develop, implement, and oversee effective HSE/BC management systems at NIBR Emeryville. Major accountabilities include developing and/or enhancing effective and efficient HSE/BC Management Systems and supporting programs (e.g., Chemical Safety, Biosafety, Radiation Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Compliance, Occupational Health, Business/Research Continuity, Novartis Emergency Management (NEM), and other programs as driven by Novartis Corporate HSE Guidelines and Guidance Notes) that are appropriate in consideration of NIBR Emeryville's complexity, population, regulatory burden/environment, criticality and location. The ideal candidate will also ensure that NIBR Emeryville complies with all pertinent HSE/BC regulations, permits, statutes, local ordinances and/or other externally driven requirements and that NIBR Emeryville conforms to all pertinent Novartis Corporate HSE/BC Guidelines, and associated Guidance Notes. This is a full-time position in which the ideal hire will assist in the Environmental, Health & Safety, (EHS) efforts for a region in North America to maintain compliance with EHS regulatory requirements and Masonite corporate EHS policies and guidelines. Additionally, the hire will be the prime resource after an acquisition to integrate new companies into the Masonite system. Time & resource allocation will generally be 80% Safety and 20% Health and Environmental. The Regional Leader will establish and maintain an effective system of communication within the organization, developing effective working relationships with the safety committee, department managers, plant manager, and employees. The Regional EHS Leader will also communicate and coordinate EHS activities with other regions to share best practices and leverage resources for common initiatives. Key accountabilities include injury reduction and worker compensation cost reduction. Qualifications include a BS/BA in a related field (Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Engineering, Management with 7-10 years related EHS experience in a manufacturing environment), or proven experience deemed to equal or exceed formal education. Working knowledge of worker compensation, Federal, State & Local Environmental Regulations, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ACGIH and experience with Lean Sigma preferred but not required.
Georgia-Pacific LLC; Bradford, Pennsylvania
Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager reporting to the General Manager at our plant in Bradford, PA to provide leadership and strategic direction through the application of the MBM framework and Guiding Principles. This position has no direct reports and while working with line management on their role in EHS, this position will also have responsibilities for certain EHS tasks and activities. Specific examples include: completing both regulatory and company reports and other administrative duties, working directly with employees to facilitate continued significant employee involvement. Other responsibilities include ensuring systems effectively address facility's EH&S risk profile and developing and/or aligning facility EH&S strategy according to the business/enterprise EH&S plan. A Bachelors degree in Safety, Environmental or related field, or equivalent work experience. 5 years minimum EH&S experience in industrial or manufacturing is required. CSP and previous leadership preferred.
