EPA's Powers Upheld by Court With Climate Rules on Deck
The U.S. Supreme Court strengthened the Environmental Protection Agency in its drive to cut air pollution, a result critics warned would lead to costly regulations as the agency moves to curb global warming. The justices, voting 6-2 to overturn a lower court, backed the EPA's so-called Good Neighbor rule, which targets air pollution that crosses state lines. Read more....

Amid Legal Uncertainty on Conflict Minerals, Alternatives Emerge
The illegal trade of tantalum, tungsten, tin and gold from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and surrounding countries is fueling conflict in central Africa. Sales of these conflict minerals help fund arms for militias, ultimately leading to human rights abuses. The ideal candidate must become an in-house expert on 2-3 obligations of support development of process efficiencies including workflow and platform by defining requirements and supporting spec development. This position can be based remotely from a home office. Responsibilities include utilizing chemical expertise to understand and analyze chemical compositions to determine hazards and risks for GHS purple book classification/label output and leading a team to ensure processes and procedures are followed and expected output is met. Requirements include an M.S. Toxicology or equivalent with at least 3 years in chemical regulatory compliance and an understanding of GHS and application to create SDSs isd. This position is located in Pasadena, TX and is responsible for supporting site(s) in effective, safe, and environmentally acceptable operations. The position will provide technical support for Process Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, compliance activities as needed through a shared services concept. The Specialist will be responsible for the primary OSIH support for the Pasadena CPN site and secondary support for the Pasadena CCP and EN sites. Your responsibilities would also include assisting in EHS training programs as it pertains to technician training programs for operations and maintenance, new employees, and all members on changes made to existing EHS requirements. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS and/or Operations within the manufacturing industry OR an Associate's degree with 10+ years of experience in EHS and/or Operations within the manufacturing industry OR high school diploma plus 15 or more years of experience in the safety field or process operations in manufacturing industry is required. Degree in Engineering, Safety, Chemistry, Emergency Response or related field(s) preferred. Experience with OSIH and Process Safety desired. Proven leadership in EHS preferred. Experience in Process Hazard Analysis and Emergency Response desired.

C&T Enterprises is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable safety and compliance professional to research, plan, develop, implement and manage safety, environmental and compliance programs and procedures for our group of electric utilities in northern and central Pennsylvania. The position may be based at their Mansfield, Wellsboro or Wysox Pennsylvania locations but will require frequent travel to facilities across northern Pennsylvania as well as an office in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Responsibilities include conducting training and informational presentations with the express purpose of providing a safe work environment for employees, contractors and the public, and conducting safety and environmental audits of crews, equipment and facilities and ensuring that required safety, training, accident and environmental records and documentation are maintained to comply with applicable regulations. The successful candidate must have at least three years experience in a compliance unit or organization closely related to an electric utility, specialized training equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or a related field is preferred (additional training or education in electric utility operations, loss prevention and environmental compliance is highly desirable).

Clearwater Paper Corporation is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer at their Corporate Headquarters in Spokane, Washington. They are the country's largest provider of private label tissue to retail grocery chains and a world-class manufacturer of high-quality bleached paperboard. This position will support and/or manage environmental compliance activities in all media for manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities include interacting with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements, identifies compliance issues, implements compliance requirements, and acts as a technical resource, performing facility inspections and audits, developing and managing systems to ensure compliance, and developing and providing training to mill personnel on key environmental issues. Successful candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in science or engineering required and have a minimum seven years' experience in environmental required, preferably in the environmental consulting and/or pulp and paper industry or other manufacturing sector.
