President Said to Be Planning to Use Executive Authority on Carbon Rule
President Obama will use his executive authority to cut carbon emissions from the nation's coal-fired power plants by up to 20 percent, according to people familiar with his plans, which will spur the creation of a state cap-and-trade program forcing industry to pay for the carbon pollution it creates. It would be the strongest action ever taken by an American president to tackle climate change and could become one of the defining elements of Mr. Obama's legacy. Read more....

The primary function of this position is to provide technical knowledge and support to the manufacturing departments ensuring the plant is operating in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner with regard to all Federal, State, Local and Corporate Environmental and Safety Regulations. Some key Environmental responsibilities include preparing, submitting and reviewing all required environmental permit applications/renewals and routine agency reports, e.g., air emissions, water and waste water, hazardous/toxic waste, spills and releases, hazardous material/substance inventories. Some key Safety responsibilities include ensuring all required plant safety inspections are performed and documented, e.g., fire extinguishers, fire risers, emergency response equipment, safety showers, eye wash stations, emergency lights, ladders, housekeeping and that corrective actions are completed for identified deficiencies. Basic Qualifications include a A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience in the field of Environmental, Health & Safety in a manufacturing plant environment. Masters degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Discipline from an accredited institution preferred. Professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) preferred.

They are currently seeking a Manager of EHS Programs for our Melville, NY manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for supporting the plant management team on EHS matters; ensuring compliance at the plant with all federal, state and municipal environmental and Corporate EHS requirements. Position reports to the site EAS Director - Melville plant. Principal accountabilities include developing, administering and maintaining responsibility for assigned environmental, health and safety programs, and conducting and reporting on periodic reviews of the facilities to determine both safety and environmental compliance to federal, state and local laws. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Environmental, Safety, Civil, Mechanical), Chemistry or other natural science is required along with 5-7 years experience in the area of environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene - preferably in manufacturing operations. Prefer if either hold Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar designations, or be working towards such certification.

Requirements are a Bsc in chemical engineering or environmental engineering, with an M.A / Msc. Degree preferred. 7+ years of environmental/chemical engineering experience required with experience in working in a large, complex matrix environment with global processes preferred.
