Former Treasury Secretaries, Financial Leaders Press Business to Cut Climate Change Risks
A bipartisan group of prominent financial and political figures called for new policies to "reduce the odds of catastrophic outcomes" from extreme heat and rising sea levels linked to climate change and issued a report suggesting that the most severe risks could be avoided through early investments. The group, called the Risky Business Project, is seeking to spell out economic perils of climate change to appeal to businesses "to rise to the challenge and lead the way in helping reduce climate risks." Don't Just Train Your Employees, Engage Them!
No doubt you are aware that the aging workforce means there will be fewer workers available to fill future positions. We are going to need everyone who is willing and able to contribute in some way. Looking forward, we continually will need to develop the skills of our existing workforce, with special consideration to older workers. With that will come challenges. Levi's: The Value of Jiu Jitsu Sustainability
Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh recently stirred up the airwaves when he announced that his Levi's jeans hadn't seen the inside of a washing machine for more than a year. His statement, which was made during a sustainability conference in California last month, had just the right effect: It reminded listeners that if there is one overriding hallmark associated with America's iconic blue jeans, it's sustainability. Stephanie Kwolek, Kevlar Inventor, Dies at 90
Police Lt. David Spicer took four .45-caliber slugs to the chest and arms at point-blank range and lived to tell about it. Like thousands of other police officers and soldiers shot in the line of duty, he owes his life to a woman in Delaware by the name of Stephanie Kwolek. Kwolek, who died Wednesday at 90, was a DuPont Co. chemist who in 1965 invented Kevlar, the lightweight, stronger-than-steel fiber used in bulletproof vests and other body armor around the world. Your main responsibility will be to assure North American (NA) Executive Management that business units (BUs) and facilities have comprehensive programs and procedures to meet regulatory compliance requirements and to inform management of SHE (Safety Health and Environmental) liabilities. B.S. in technical field: Science, Engineering (Chemical, Process or Environmental) or Occupational Safety required and a Masters Degree is preferred. Safety profession certifications or similar credentials (CSP/CIH or equivalent) required. Environmental profession certifications (QEP, CPEA, CHMM or equivalent) required. They are looking for an EHS Director. You will represent members on policy and industry issues before the state legislature, state, county and city agencies, advocating on behalf of the construction industry. The position provides business practice and regulatory information to its membership, developing positions and communicating to regulators. The position also provides technical assistance and information to a variety of Association committees and Districts regarding occupational safety, health, and workers' compensation regulations and issues. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in business or safety is required along with five years of safety related and regulatory advocacy experience is required.

MAHLE is the leading global manufacturer of components and systems for the internal combustion engines and its peripherals. They are looking for an EHS Corporate Team Leader. You will be the primary process owner for special project assignments as needed by the Corporate EHS Director for new processes and major modifications. You will also provide assistance to obtain, standardize, and compile metrics data regarding EHS compliance performance, costs, and status of key issues. A Bachelor's degree in related technical or scientific field and a minimum of ten (10) years of related manufacturing and/or industrial experience is required. Certification as CSP, CIH, or other environmental or safety professional is desirable. Knowledge of Lotus Notes and SAP a plus.
