Very large businesses capable of altering the fundamentals of the political system have entered the climate data arena in new and meaningful ways. They are reducing their impact, and offering up resources to further our understanding of climate impacts. Report: Circular Economy Makes Economic Sense
The UK's current linear economy is not sustainable and needs to be changed to a circular economy, according to a report by the UK Environmental Audit Committee. The committee, which was appointed by the British House of Commons, says a circular approach of re-using resources and maximizing their value over time makes economic sense in addition to the environmental benefits. Microsoft Drops ALEC Membership
Microsoft has announced that it is ending its relationship with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a conservative public-policy lobbying group. The decision was apparently made in response to ALEC's anti-renewables lobbying efforts, including measures to repeal renewable energy standards and block the disclosure of chemicals in fracking. USDA Reins In Misleading Organic Labels
The Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it will rein-in misleading language on packaging. Foods that are not certified organic will no longer be able to display that word on the front panel of products. Read more...

Johnson & Johnson, multinational medical devices, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods manufacturer, is looking for an EHS Director. S/he will be responsible for the Juarez campus' environmental health and safety infrastructure. This role will manage a campus EHS&S team located at multiple sites. S/he will be responsible for ensuring Juarez campus EHS operations are in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as J&J EHS Standards. S/he will partner with Juarez campus leadership team to establish and implement Juarez campus EHS strategy and site Management Action Plans (MAPs) in alignment with JJSC, R&D, and commercial strategic imperatives. Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Science, engineering, or related EHS discipline/degree is preferred. 6+ years of progressive EHS experience is required, with at least 3+ years managing EHS programs at a Manufacturing or R&D facility is required; extensive experience in an FDA regulated environment is preferred.

Valmont Industries is one of the world's leading providers of engineered products and services for infrastructure, and irrigation equipment for agriculture. They are looking for an EHS Manager. Under the direction of the Corporate Director of Environmental Responsibility, this position is responsible for updating and implementing the corporate environmental sustainability playbook and auditing the compliance of facilities to the playbooks standards. While this position will initially provide primarily North American Compliance assistance to 13 light manufacturing and metal fabricating sites it will transition to a systems auditing function with global scope. This position is responsible for developing corporate metrics and performance measures for environmental/sustainability programs, tools that support facility and division personnel in meeting the requirements of the Environmental Playbook and their compliance and sustainability objectives. Bachelor's degree in the sciences, engineering or environmental affairs/policy from an accredited university is required, along with ten years of environmental compliance experience working with air, waste and water regulations in a manufacturing or consulting environment supporting manufacturing. A professional certification such as CHMM, CEA, CEM, PG or PE is preferred. A Master's degree in Business, Engineering or the Sciences is also preferred. ISO14001 experience a plus.
