An International Comparison of Pollution Abatement and Waste Management Costs
This study compares the costs of pollution control reduction faced by manufacturers in the U.S. and our trading partners in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The purpose of this analysis was to determine the annual additional cost burden that environmental rules have on manufacturing and determine whether the United States is at a relative cost disadvantage compared with its key trading partners. Of the nine countries, the U.S. ranks second highest for air pollution costs as a percent of sector value-added, fourth for greenhouse gases, and sixth for waste disposal and wastewater treatment. Aircraft Makers Urge Ban On Lithium Battery Shipments
Aircraft makers are urging a ban on bulk lithium battery shipments on passenger planes, calling the threat of fires "an unacceptable risk." The paper cites recent testing by the Federal Aviation Administration that shows the batteries emit explosive gases when overheated. Meanwhile, pilot unions in the U.S. have been pressing for a single safety standard for both passenger and cargo airlines, but regulators' hands are tied by a 2012 law enacted by Congress. California Business Coalition Pushes For Secure Water Supply
A coalition of global businesses including General Mills, Coca-Cola, Gap, and Symantec launched a campaign to seek and support solutions to the state's water supply crunch. The Connect the Drops campaign comes as California enters a fourth year of drought, and days after state officials announced they could deliver just 20 percent the water requested by agencies. Cardinal Health is looking for someone with EHS background and IT passion to lead the administration of their EHS data management system globally. This position will maintain system, data and reporting quality assurance, contribute to system process design, lead implementations and roll-outs and of enhancements and version upgrades. Requirements include a minimum 4 years of previous EHS experience and a minimum of 2 years of working knowledge with an EHS data management system (e.g., ProcessMap, SAP, Gensuite, KMI EHS Software Suite, Enablon, Intelex Technologies Inc., Applications International Corp etc...). Prior experience working for manufacturing or distribution companies is highly preferred.

SABIC is looking for an EHS Manager. The ideal candidate will provide site leadership for assigned regulatory programs and act as single point of contact for environmental compliance issues within assigned manufacturing operations. S/he will implement and maintain the relative environmental areas of the site's Safety, Health and Environmental management system. The position helps drive the on-going implementation of the SMART safety process and assists operations in the development of a strong EHS Management System. The position works to develop optimal employee engagement and management commitment surrounding the EHS processes. Must have a Bachelor's Degree (EHS degree preferred). 5+ years of Safety, Health and Environmental compliance or business related experience required along with a working knowledge of Federal and State EH&S laws and OSHA regulations. Working knowledge of ISO compliance programs a plus. CSP/ASP/CIH.

The incumbent develops and manages program components which target awareness and participation in safety and environmental initiatives aimed at recognizing and eliminating hazards and increasing sustainability while meeting all compliance requirements. The position is responsible for developing and promoting programs addressing student fire safety and employee workplace safety as well as programs which minimize environmental impacts. The Environmental Health and Safety Director must have a Bachelor's degree in a science field and a minimum of five years of experience in safety and environmental management with at least three years at the supervisory/management level.

S/he directly manages Branch Safety Directors to ensure that the Corporate safety program is administered consistently across all branches and project sites. BS in Environmental Safety & Health/Management or related area + 5 years experience or 10+ years industry-specific experience. Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations and OSHA compliance.
