California's Greenhouse House Gas Emission Targets Are Getting Tougher
California Governor Jerry Brown ramped up his efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, issuing an executive order Wednesday morning with more ambitious targets. The governor's order aims to cut emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Previous goals, which were set during former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration, were to reach 1990 levels by 2020, then 80% below that standard by 2050. Read more...
Here's Why Apple Is Building Solar Farms in China
Apple just agreed to back two large solar farms in China. It's the biggest deal of its kind for a U.S. company operating in China. Many U.S. tech giants, not just Apple, have been criticized for outsourcing their pollution, says Justin Wu, head of Asia research for BNEF. Apple is "hitting back at that whole line of arguments," he says. "This is the beginning of something. Manufacturing in China is going to get greened." Read more...
23 Nestlé USA Factories Achieve Zero Waste to Landfill
Nestlé USA announced that 23 of its 32 US factories, spanning all of its food and beverage categories, are now landfill-free. This brings 15 percent of the candymaker's factories worldwide (72 in total) to zero waste for 2014, surpassing Nestlé's goal of having 10 percent of its global factories at this stage by 2015, and bringing it another step closer to achieving its goal of producing zero waste in all of its global factories and distribution centers by 2020. 4,585 Reasons for Workers Memorial Day
In 2013, 4,585 people died on the job because of unsafe working conditions. Every year, safety organizations around the U.S. mark April 28 as Workers Memorial Day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on the job, and to vow to do better and create meaningful change. This year, those same groups collaborated to create the U.S. Worker Fatality Database online. The database, which continues to be updated, has information on more than 1,780 workplace fatalities from 2014. Read more...
Walmart Cuts 17.4M Metric Tons of GHGs from Global Supply Chain
Walmart is on track to eliminate 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from its global supply chain by the end of 2015. The retailer has helped its suppliers reduce GHG emissions by more than 17.4 metric tons by the end of 2014, compared to the 2010 baseline. Walmart has also made gains in waste diversion and water reductions. Read more...

Amazon.com is looking for an EHS Manager. The North American Environmental Program Manager will be responsible for partnering with the NAFCs in our Fulfillment Network to perform environmental performance analysis, develop network standards and policy and implementation of the Amazon environmental standards. This position will be responsible for overseeing and executing environmental programs at the corporate level and ensuring overall environmental compliance performance strategies. The ideal candidate will provide 'single-point of contact' to the site teams for understanding existing and developing environmental regulations and regulatory activity (compliance of new technologies with applicable codes and standards). S/he will also manage and oversee compliance with Federal, State and Local environmental and DOT regulations and Amazon policy. This includes solid waste, hazardous waste, storm water, air, risk management. A completed Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering or related field of study is required along with 5+ years' experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or program manager. Experience with RMP, Tier II, hazardous waste, Stormwater, DOT, GRI Reporting a plus.

The Corporate EH&S Director is chiefly responsible for ensuring the highest possible level of operational safety and asset protection across the company, including oversight of the environmental health and safety program to reduce and control SIC exposures to injury and accident risks, while ensuring operational regulatory compliance with all appropriate state and federal regulations. The EHS Director reports directly to the Vice President of Support Services. The ideal candidate maintains, revises and implements Corporate EHS programs, plans and procedures for meeting and exceeding Company environmental, safety,and health performance goals. S/he also directly manages Branch Safety Directors to ensure that the Corporate safety program is administered consistently across all branches and project sites. BS in Environmental Safety & Health/Management or related area + 5 years experience or 10+ years industry-specific experience is required. CSP Preferred.

This position is responsible for the oversight and management of environmental compliance at Lippert Components facilities. Position responsibilities include providing environmental support and leadership to production activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and permit conditions, development and implementation of initiatives to improve environmental performance, communicating and promotion of environmental programs, training, facility permitting, and communication of relevant environmental issues to department and management teams. The ideal candidate will develop capital expense budget recommendations as needed to achieve environmental goals and requirements and maintains and renews all necessary facility environmental plans, permits and manuals. S/he also ensures proper handling of all facility wastes through the most efficient allocation of time and resources and ensures mandatory environmental training to employees and subcontractors (as necessary) is conducted initially and annually. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of environmental management experience is required, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment. Must have the experience and possess comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to CWA, CAA, RCRA, CERCLA & EPCRA. The individual must have supervisory experience and skills.
