EPA Announces New Rule to Clarify Protections for U.S. Waters
The Environmental Protection Agency announced a new rule on Wednesday clarifying what types of water bodies the government can protect from pollution. The new measure says the federal government has jurisdiction over tributaries that show physical features of flowing water as well as water that is within a certain proximity to rivers, lake and tributaries. Pharmaceutical Industry Must Pay for Drug Take-Back Programs
In a move that may lead to the proliferation of extended producer responsibility laws, the Supreme Court denied a request to review a lawsuit filed over a drug take-back program in Alameda County, California. The successful candidate will be responsible for environmental, industrial hygiene and safety (EHS) auditing for Intel's Global Operations. The ideal candidate will be asked to conduct effective pre-audit preparation (this includes review of site written programs, initial contact with site leadership and planning logistics with the assigned audit team) and to conduct a thorough audit against assigned EHS standards and audit protocols. Effectively document and communicate observed deficiencies to site leadership. S/he will also support the assigned audit team leader and act as team leader on assigned audits. Lead assigned audit team members through pre-audit preparation, manage completion of a thorough and consistent site audit, present and negotiate acceptable resolution on controversial audit findings. A Bachelor of Science in environmental science or engineering, safety, or related discipline is required along with 8-10 years of direct EHS Audit experience. ISO 14K or OHSAS 18K experience a plus.

Peabody Energy, the world's largest private-sector coal company and a global leader in sustainable mining and clean coal solutions, is hiring a Manager Environmental for their SW region. The majority of the work will be at their Kayenta surface mine near Flagstaff, AZ. As an individual contributor, you will be responsible for supervising environmental permits and licenses, overseeing government inspection programs, and supervising compliance, permitting, reporting, and contractor activities to comply with federal, state, tribal and local regulations and ensure safe and environmentally sound mining operations in Arizona and New Mexico. The ideal candidate will be asked to supervise and coordinate environmental permits, licenses, revisions, renewals, and bond release applications, environmental monitoring studies, environmental program personnel, and environmental contractors to fulfill baseline, permitting, compliance, and reporting requirements, evaluate the success of reclamation, and continually improve the environmental reclamation programs. Bachelor of Science in environmental science, reclamation, or natural resource field is required along with ten or more years of experience in surface coal mining and reclamation and environmental permitting, monitoring, compliance, regulatory programs, and regulations, including especially SMCRA. Certifications in HAZWOPER and must possess or have the ability to possess within six months of hire a Surface Mine Certification (MSHA).

This position has overall responsibility for the organization's safety/risk management function, providing advice and counsel to the executive and management team accountable. With a focus on process, identifies opportunities to mitigate or eliminate various types of risk by reviewing and/or developing, and executing policies and procedures across the business. The ideal candidate hired will be responsible for documenting, and ensuring communication of, key risks, maintaining input or data quality of safety/risk management systems and recommending ways to control or reduce risk and ensure safety. S/he will identify key risks and mitigating factors of potential investments, such as asset types and values, legal and ownership structures, professional reputations, customer bases, or industry segments and devise systems and processes to monitor validity of risk modeling outputs. Master's degree in business or equivalent preferred with a minimum of 10-15 years experience in a progressive safety/risk management role. Must have prior manufacturing experience.
