General Mills Sets Ambitious GHG Goal From Farm To Fork To Landfill
Other major food companies have greenhouse gas goals, but General Mills officials said they know of no other major player that has targeted its entire chain - from raw material suppliers to consumers. Citibank: Tackling Climate Change Better for the Global Economy Than Inaction
Taking action to mitigate climate change by investing in a low-carbon energy mix will save more money in the long run than inaction, even before accounting for savings from avoided climate damage costs, according to a new report by Citibank. Coca-Cola Says It's Close to Water Replenishment Goal
Coca-Cola said that by the end of the year, it and its bottlers would reach its goal of returning water to the environment and to communities around the world. The company announced this goal in 2007, promising to replenish the amount of water equivalent to its sales volume by 2020. Rite Aid is the largest drugstore chain on the East Coast and the third-largest in the United States, employing roughly 89,000 associates. It is looking for an EHS Director. The purpose of this position is to develop, implement, maintain and drive continuous improvement in Rite Aide's environmental compliance programs. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws. The associate is responsible for developing policies, initiatives, procedures and training to ensure compliance with ever evolving Federal, State & Local environmental regulations, and requirements for the appropriate disposition of hazardous waste and medical waste. S/he will manage third party vendor relationships including hazardous waste haulers, The Wercs item classification clearing house, consultants and other service vendors, to ensure compliance with legal requirements while achieving efficient, cost effective services. This position directly supervises Manager, Operations & Support, Manager, Projects & Compliance, Senior Specialist (3), Administrator, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Rite Aid policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining associates; appraising associate performance; and resolving complaints. Ten (10) years' of experience in Management experience in environmental compliance, hazardous waste management required or equivalent education in lieu of experience Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations. * CSP, CIH or CHMM preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Sciences or a related field required. Master's degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Sciences or a related field preferred.

This position will be responsible for the coordination and execution of EHS tasks at multiple Cargill Industrial Specialties (CIS) facilities as well as the integration of new manufacturing facilities into Cargill. These EHS tasks include training, incident investigations, and reports, operating plans, audits/inspections, facility projects, BU initiatives, agency communications and Corporate EHS reporting. Responsibilities include compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and Corporate EHS policies, hands-on work with facility operating personnel to promote, and improve EHS awareness, compliance and performance. You will also be asked to provide leadership to drive towards and sustain an injury free culture. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, EHS or related field and 5 plus years of experience managing EHS responsibilities in a manufacturing facility or Bachelor's Degree and 10 plus years of experience managing EHS responsibilities in a manufacturing facility is required. Must be effective at interacting w/ CIS operations personnel (high contact), EHS consultants (moderate contact), government regulators (low contact) and EHS attorneys (low contact). M.S. in Engineering, EHS or related field along with 10 plus years' experience managing EHS responsibilities for multiple manufacturing facilities preferred.

The EHS Director partners with the management team to ensure that a robust, continuous-improvement based Environmental, Health and Safety Management System is in place and managed effectively. This EHS Management System includes provisions for the establishment of EHS related goals and metrics, management reviews, programs to help ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, injury and Illness prevention programs, Safety Leadership, and Environmental Management. S/he also works with the Management Team, Safety Committee members and others to establish and maintain a safety culture where working safely and within a safe working environment is a company and employee value and supervises EHS Coordinator and others engaged in Environmental permitting, compliance, monitoring and reporting programs. BA/BS degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university is required. At least 5-10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with batch processes is preferred. CSP and/or CIH preferred. Additional certification as CHMM is desirable. Working knowledge of requirements from Federal and State OSHA, EPA, DOT and/or any other agency that pertain to the metal working or machining industry required. Strong knowledge of, especially, EPA waste stream reporting requirements and OSHA regulations pertaining to lockout/tagout/tryout (energy control), machine guarding, recordkeeping and reporting is preferred. Knowledge and (preferably) implementation of EHS Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001, OSHA VPP, ISO 14001, etc preferred.
