Toxic Chemicals In Drinking Water For Six Million Americans
Drinking water supplies for more than six million Americans contain unsafe levels of industrial chemicals, known as PFASs, that have been linked to cancer and other serious health problems, a U.S. study suggests. Additionally, the problem may be much more widespread than the current study findings suggest because researchers lacked data on drinking water from smaller public water systems and private wells that serve about one-third of the U.S. population – about 100 million people. The EHS Manager eliminates or controls hazardous conditions resulting from human error and/or associated with the machinery, tools, equipment, and production of JELD-WEN products. S/he develops safety policies and programs including training programs, processes and procedures and maintains, files, analyzes and processes safety records, manages or assists in directing and coordinating all safety and health related activities for the facility to prevent occupational injury/illness related losses, and minimize future liabilities by evaluating risks and establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities. S/he also designs or assists in the design of protective equipment or safety devices for workers, machines and other plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards, lead and manage Safety Team meetings and inspections, manages and assists outside regulatory visits and informs management on any issues that may exist and takes corrective actions on same to stay in conformance with regulations. They have established itself as a leader in the construction of parking structures, data centers, sports facilities, and office buildings. They are looking for an EHS Director. This person will conduct and/or coordinate periodic inspections and audits to ensure the environmental, health, and safety program is being implemented and is in compliance with Company programs and local, state, and federal safety and health regulations. S/he will participate with SPG supervisors in pre-job safety planning to ensure safety is adequately planned for and addressed and act as the primary Company resource for environmental, health, and safety matters and provide guidance and direction as needed. S/he will also direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous waste, air permitting, water pollution control, and community right-to-know programs and perform/manage industrial hygiene monitoring as required. A Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or related field preferred. Candidates must have 5 years’ experience in an EHS position. OHST/CHST and/or CSP preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910, and working knowledge of DOT and EPA/DEQ regulations for plant operations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. The Environmental Compliance Manager will function with a dynamic team who aspire to deliver solutions and provide support to our team of 1,200+ employees in more than 80 locations in the United States and Canada. The successful candidate will work closely with other HCC leaders to drive improvement in the supply chain management process by assessing and documenting vendor compliance with regulatory and internal standards. In addition, this person will interface with State and Federal Agencies, provide internal guidance on regulatory issues, assist in managing the regulatory compliance of HCC facilities, and effectively manage and remediate internal spill incidents. A Bachelor’s Degree in the Sciences is required along with 10+ years direct work experience minimum. A strong working knowledge of Supply Chain Management practices is a plus, as well a solid understanding of RCRA hazardous waste, RCRA used oil regulations and DOT regulations. Up to 50% travel.
