New EPA Facility Safety Rule Faces Uncertain Future
On October 14, 2016, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sent its final revised facility safety rule to the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) for pre-publication review. The rule would update EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP), a program established under Section 112(r) of the Clean Air Act (CAA) to improve the safety of industrial plants that use or store more than a threshold quantity of a hazardous substances. Global Product Stewardship Specialist

Shire is a specialty bio-pharmaceutical company. Originating in the United Kingdom with an operational base in the United States, it is a global biotechnology company focused on serving people with rare diseases and other highly specialized conditions. They are looking for an EHS Specialist. The ideal candidate will support the Global Product Stewardship Lead to help develop, implement and maintain the procedures and processes for product environmental regulatory requirements such as REACh, RoHS, Packaging and Batteries Directives, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and other chemical regulations. The candidate will be responsible for implementation of procedures and processes for product regulatory compliance efforts and support the team in coordinating implementation of processes with in the EHS group as well as coordinate with other functional groups on integrating the business requirements. A BS degree in Environmental Studies/Management or in a technical degree such as chemistry, engineering, etc. is required, along with at least 3 years of experience in leading compliance programs for RoHS, WEEE, Packaging, REACH, GHS and Conflict Minerals or other product environmental regulations. An MS degree in a related field is a plus. Knowledge of EHS compliance regulations such as waste, wastewater, DOT, IATA and other HazMat regulations and experience with ISO 14001/OSHAS 18001 management systems a plus.

Safety & Quality Control Specialist

The ideal candidate will asked to focus on the development, implementation, and compliance assurance for all safety best practices and risk management across all company departments. This position also has the responsibility of effectively responding to and coordinating incident response logistics, which can be at any time of the day throughout the week. Additionally, the position will work in conjunction with field production managers (Production, Mulch, PHC) assisting with quality control assessment and compliance in those Departments. The Safety & Quality Control Specialist will work collaboratively with Department Managers and company employees to ensure safety awareness and quality control compliance. 3 to 5 years of previous Safety Management experience and/or experience in arboriculture industry is required. Associates degree or higher is required. OSHA 10/30 required. CSP/TCIA/ISA a plus.

The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Lead position is responsible for leading a team of environment, health and safety specialists whose primary duties are ensuring the health and safety of employees and the protection of the environment and property. In addition, the Lead position serves as the key advisor to facility management on the implementation and management of health, safety and environmental initiatives designed to promote and achieve World Class Manufacturing status. The EH&S Lead will report to the Division Lead in the Corporate EH&S Staff. A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field is required along with a minimum of 8 years Safety, Environmental, Engineering or World Class Manufacturing experience. Strong understanding of WCM safety tools, step requirements, pillar integration and gap analysis a plus. Master's degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field preferred. WCM Safety Pillar Lead, presented for a score 3 preferred along with CSP, CIH.
