And now the news

When is your midterm election? - Blog
Most companies are not forced by an election to push the reset button every two years - but imagine if they did. What if all managers had fixed terms and needed to be reappointed based on their performance? Would it lead to more honest feedback from customers and subordinates, and more frequent strategic reviews? Would it make managers more accountable for results and more willing to build strong teams? Or would it encourage managers to play it safe rather than taking risks that might reduce their chances of reappointment?

An integrated EHS Platform success story - White Paper
This report focuses on the challenge of creating a common technology platform as a requirement for an integrated EHS management system, using the example of a successful integration. The authors, from Enablon and Eaton Corporation, demonstrate how a comprehensive, global system for supporting management decision-making and dramatically improving EHS performance was initiated and continues to be developed, at every level of the organization, at every location around the world.

The poor Sunchips Bag: A cautionary tale - Blog
I, for one, liked the Sunchips bag. I wasn't annoyed by the sound; found it quite endearing, actually. So what went wrong? Although 65% of the population is looking for greener products, mainstream American consumers value their personal comfort more than they value the environment.

The top 10 things to consider when selecting an EMIS! - Article
Selecting an EMIS from the multitude of EHS software vendors is a difficult decision that will impact your operations for years to come. Make sure you start the process on the right foot with these important considerations from E2ManageTech, a software-neutral company with 12 years of experience. This article is benefit of E2ManageTech's sponsorship of the 2010 Forum.

Dell, IBM, HP, top Newsweek's Green Rankings 2010 - Article
Dell earned the top spot, with IBM and HP coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively, in Newsweek's 2nd annual Green Rankings - a yearly ranking of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the United States. The top five companies in this year's rankings are an exact repeat of the 2009 rankings. Newsweek said that Tech companies dominated this year's Green Rankings - in part because they make low-impact products, like software, that inevitably have a smaller environmental footprint than, say, a utility. Bottom-line considerations are a big part of what's driving tech companies in the green direction - for example Hewlett-Packard says its current IT systems use 66 percent less energy than those designed in 2005. View the rankings.
